The ITW Debut Author Program, under the aegis of the International Thriller Writers main organization, seeks to support our first-book members through the publication process by providing a friendly, interactive community for the purposes of networking, mentoring, promotion, and camaraderie.

About the Debut Authors Program by Steve Berry (ThrillerFest awards banquet, July 2010)

ITW’s Debut Authors program is growing by the year. 26 were in the first class in 2008. 46 participated in 2009. 49 this year. Already, 10 are signed up for next year, and 2 for the year after that. 153 writers in all, so far.

The accomplishments of this year’s class is impressive:

5 received starred reviews in either Publishers Weekly, Booklist, or Library Journal;
9 have sold foreign rights, one to 15 countries, 3 have sold film options, and 6 have sold audio rights;
1 was selected as a Next Indie pick, 1 chosen as a Target pick, 1 was featured as a Today Show selection;
we have Barry, Anthony, Nero, and Edgar award nominees in this class, along with a Bram Stoker award winner for Best First Novel;
one was featured in People magazine, 6 have made bestseller lists, including one who is now a New York Times bestseller.

What a group.

No other professional writing organization can say this about its debut members.

The Board is absolutely committed to making sure this program does nothing but expand.

Interested in becoming an ITW Debut Author member?

An author may apply to be included in the current or future class, if they are an active ITW Author member, and their novel meets the following qualifications:

published by an ITW-recognized publisher
is their first novel published in any format, anywhere
their book has been released since the previous ThrillerFest, or has yet to be published.
